Winter grazing is a useful option for farmers who also raise livestock. They can feed them using cover crops they were going to plant anyway, a cost-efficient and sustainable practice. But how does winter grazing impact the soil underneath? Hayley Crowell, researcher at Auburn University, and her team worked to find out.

Data from the new report, Cover Crop Adoption & Outlook by High-Production U.S. Farmers: Applications, Economics & Trends, published by Ag Equipment Intelligence, reveals that most customers are wanting more from their current equipment dealer when it comes to cover crop knowledge, product availability and resources.

In 2021, PepsiCo set a 2030 target goal of adopting regenerative agriculture practices across 7 million acres, which is about equal to all of the land PepsiCo uses globally to grow crops and ingredients for its products.

For glyphosate and paraquat, most cover crops can be planted after application. However, depending on the rate of 2,4-D applied, a waiting period of at least 1-4 weeks is necessary before establishing cover crops.

“There is increased interest in planting winter wheat this year and for good reason,” says Clair Keene, North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension agronomist.
