One of the most interesting cover crop seeders on display at the 2023 Agritechnica show in Hanover, Germany, was Muthing's CoverSeeder — an implement that won the silver medal as part of Agritechnica's 2022 Innovation Awards. The CoverSeeder manages residue while simultaneously seeding cover crops, and it requires little to no prior soil preparation.
The CoverSeeder has a harrow bar near the front of the implement to ensure even distribution. There is also a rotor that sucks up material from the soil surface and shreds it, followed by a seeding bar that deposits the seed on the previously cleared soil surface. A prism roller at the back of the implement allows for optimal germination conditions by getting good seed-to-soil contact.
