Salford Group

Salford Group knows cover crops. Salford’s Valmar 56 series seeders set the bar for versatility and accuracy in cover crop seeding. These machines accurately handle a wide variety of seed and blends, while pairing with virtually any implement to seed cover crops while performing other field operations. Salford has a variety of tillage implements that are suitable for seeding with the 56 series applicators. Some Salford tillage machines can be used for hay and pasture renovation, and others can be used to work in standing cover crops as green manure. Summer Cover Cropping Guide

Summer is flying by, but there’s still plenty of time to get “pumped” about summer cover cropping. This video from No-Till Growers covers all the options to consider planting before fall, from buckwheat to sweet potatoes.

Cover Cropping 101

Cover Cropping with Clarke Farms

Nathan Clarke shows how cover crops are paying off on his farm in Coleman, Michigan. Clarke shares his cover crop playbook, from seeding methods to equipment choices, and shares a valuable lesson for first time cover croppers.

Jim Hoorman’s Top 10 Soil Health Tricks

It’s always a must-read when Jim Hoorman writes about soil health. The soil health legend reveals his top 10 soil health tricks from his fact sheet, “25 tips to Growing and Managing Cover Crops." Here’s a taste: “At least 50 percent of cover crop species should be low growing, another 30 percent intermediate and another 20 percent tall growing.”

Strip-Till Innovator of the Year

On the week of the 9th annual National Strip-Tillage Conference, we honor Innovator Award winner, Bryan Ryberg. Minnesota’s first sugar beet strip-tiller explains how he saved his soils thanks in large part to cover crops.

Brian Ryberg of Buffalo Lake, Minn., relies on a 24-row, triple-coulter Environmental Tillage Systems (ETS) SoilWarrior for strip-tilling corn, soybeans and sugar beets. ETS is one of a few companies that make equipment for 22-inch rows, the typical spacing for sugar beets.
