More Livestock Farmers Grazed Cover Crops, Saw Lower Value

Farmers raising livestock & cover crops remained largely consistent in their practices, though there were slight shifts with the species grazed & timing

Just over 45% of growers who seeded cover crops in 2025 also raised livestock, and nearly half (46.8%) of them grazed their animals on their cover cropped acres. That was up 13.1 percentage points from the 33.7% of livestock farmers who said they grazed cover crops in 2024.     At the same time, the perceived value of grazing cover crops fell. Half of producers estimated the value at less than $50 per acre, an 11.4-point increase…
