More Livestock Farmers Grazed Cover Crops, Saw Lower Value

Farmers raising livestock & cover crops remained largely consistent in their practices, though there were slight shifts with the species grazed & timing

Just over 45% of growers who seeded cover crops in 2025 also raised livestock, and nearly half (46.8%) of them grazed their animals on their cover cropped acres. That was up 13.1 percentage points from the 33.7% of livestock farmers who said they grazed cover crops in 2024.     At the same time, the perceived value of grazing cover crops fell.
