Farmers for Soil Health, a collaboration between the National Corn Growers Association, National Pork Board and United Soybean Board to create a farmer-led cover crop program, has announced enrollment is now open for the second year of the initiative.
In its first year alone, 238 farmers enrolled, covering more than 78,000 acres, pushing the initiative closer to its goal of doubling cover crop adoption to 30 million acres across the U.S. by 2030.
The Iowa Soybean Association, the Iowa Corn Promotion Board, and the Iowa Agriculture Water Alliance are leading a statewide push toward a national cover crop goal of 30 million acres.
Starting with Anheuser-Busch's Busch Light Beer, certification includes new packaging seal for products made with ingredients grown by American farmers.
The National Corn Growers Association looks forward to seeing the next steps that will be taken as a part of the Farmers for Soil Health. NCGA is a founding member of FSH, which was awarded the $95 million grant from the USDA’s Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities program that makes this work possible.
It's hard to believe how much grain needs to be shipped down the Mississippi River to keep the massive elevators in New Orleans working at full capacity. If we're going to double yields over the next few decades, we've also got to invest in new facilities to get these valuable grains to market around the world.
