At Frog Song Organics in North Central Florida, John Bitter grows a little bit of everything, upwards of 80 crops in a year. Figuring out his rotations is the key to success as an organic farmer, and cover crops are an integral part of every rotation. Some kind of cover crop is growing somewhere on the farm year round.
Rye and other grasses are typical because they suppress nematodes and improve soil quality. They are either worked into the soil or are grazed. Sunn hemp is often grown in the summer.
