In this video, Nick Smith and his dad, Jack Smith, both of Epworth, Iowa, give an overview of their setup: a Gandy air seeder mounted on a combine to simultaneously combine and seed cover crops. Jack explains the process, saying “The rye is shot ahead of the corn head, then all the corn residue is mulched on top of it,” which provides moisture for the rye to germinate.
